  4. As we drove through a small side street, we heard laughter and shouting in the distance. Some were further in the old camp ground we heard the sound of a lawn mower and the smell of freshly mowed grass. A family whizzed by on bikes, smiling, and happily chatting. You could smell the saltiness in the air from the ocean, just a few blocks away. The famous colorful “gingerbread” houses lined each street. Elderly people were sitting on the porches drinking iced tea and playing cards. Lemonade stands were setup along the road with young children getting flooded by customers in bathing suits and swim trunks. It was like paradise and so far, I liked it. I definitely liked it.

  5. “We have a lot to tell you, Miss Lewis. Please, have a seat.” The lady gestured one elegantly manicured hand at a chair. I sat. “You too, Hawk. Have a seat.”
The man, whose name was evidently Hawk, sat on a chair opposite of me. He brought a silver whistle from his pocket and blew into it. I didn't hear a sound, but judging from the way the wolf perked up, the sound must’ve been too shrill and high for the human ear to hear. A minute later, a large bird of prey swooped in through an open window, scaring the living daylights out of me. I nearly fell out of my chair.
“What is going on?” I asked, my voice shaking. “Why am I here? I don't even know you people, so why are you even in my dream? And what’s with these wild animals?” The lady looked back at me coolly, not even batting an eyelash at the fact that I just yelled in her face. The man, I mean Hawk, though, looked ready to have his bird rip me into shreds.
“First, of all, Miss Lewis, I promise that all your questions and wonderings will be answered. but be patient. You will find out why we all have animals, besides the fact that creatures make good companions.” She paused, and looked me in the eye.
“And lastly... this is not a dream.”

  6. (Cherry here :3 Heres my exerpt. Decribing characters rocks!)
A 16 year old looking girl jogged down the road, sweat running down the sides of her petite face, a ammo filled rifle clanging on her side. She looked alert, ready to whip out a weapon and shoot in seconds. Her dark brown hair whipping around in its ponytail, the emerald eyes evenly set on each side of her nose narrowed, but also glimmering in the hot summer sun.She had on slightly ripped dark blue jeans, a camo green t-shirt, and muddy looking sneakers. Her hands were set on the straps of her light brown backpack, looking filled, and covered in weapons like a bow, shotgun, and a set of pistols.
The road was starting to narrow, and she stopped, looking into the far spread tree’s on either side of her. As if noticing something, she took out one of her silenced pistols, aimed it, and with a silenced shot, whatever it was fell out of the forest, next to the road. The girl carefully looked it over, picking up the slightly bloodied rabbit she had shot. “Perfect.” The girl muttered to herself. She then pulled on one of the strings from a drawstring bag hanging from her side, delicately sliding the dead rabbit in.

  7. It was a normal day at Bella Anne High School, the sun was shining and no one was aware of the enemy lurking in the shadows. now Bella Anne High School also had another name not known by most of the world, the Institute for Young Spies. most people thought it was just a regular high school. But, this school was different. it took in children from all over the globe and trained them to be the undercover defense system for the world. now, back to the enemy. he was there lurking in the shadowy bushes outside the school.

  9. Today, everybody looked at me, well my shoe, even the teachers for crying out loud! The janitors tell me to wipe it off, since it gets everywhere, and it does, in fact. I hate having all the attention. At least today I had P.E. instead of choir. If I had choir, I would have probably had to sing soprano in front of the school. P.E. can’t be so bad, right? I find my way to Homeroom. I am met with cake, sweets, and pretty much any other amazingly amazing treat ever. Man, Ms. Park is awesome. The bell rings, we do the pledge and then announcements. Mr. Moore welcomes everybody in his monotone voice and it’s over. Ms. Park tells us to help ourselves to the food. After stuffing my face with 2 pieces of cake and 3 cookies, she explains the time schedule and that it is different from the 7th and 8th graders. That’s a relief. The last thing I need are the big kids to beat me up. The bell rings and I stay in my seat, at the very front of the room. I can’t have the other students snickering about my shoes. As the kids file in, I examine each one. The first to arrive is this girl with pigtails and huge glasses. She rushes into a seat next to me.
“Hi! My name is Lynette!” She says brightly.
    I immediately turn away.

  10. Ding, ding, ding the annoying bell for 9th period rung. Finally I’m out of this school I thought. “Come on Molly” called my best friend Lizzie. I swung my huge backpack over my aching shoulder and we rushed out of English. We trotted down the hallway filled with crimson lockers it was like you were trapped among all the people we separated to get our sweaters it was still chilly even though summer felt like it was just around the corner “see you later liz” I said as we departed. “Hey Mol” shouted Carly she ran over to me a huge grin on her face “Can you come over today” she asked, I thought for a minute “no sorry, but maybe over the weekend?” I felt bad but my mom said she needed me to be home and she had bailed on me so many times so it was fine. “Ok Ill text you later” She called as she skipped down the noisy hall “ok bye” I shouted. I slammed my locker shut and sprinted out the door worried I wouldn’t caught my bus.

  11. I ran down the street and went cascading down the stairs. As the blazing fluorescent sunlight blinded my whole body. As I ran through the zoo gate and rushed to go see the furry pandas. The white pandas were extremely big and they were packed with huge amounts of bamboo. They had munched down the food in no time. After 5 minutes about 5 pounds went down and disappeared. As the panda slowly fell to sleep, The speakers said, ‘Sea Lion Show starts now!”
I quickly ran down and trampled over many people to the show. The arena was huge...

  12. Magda:
"It was a serenely peaceful the day Pauline got the letter from her old friend in England. It was one of those mysterious days, with secrets in the air. It was early October, the sky that shade of in between grey, like it’s hiding something. Pauline had gotten off of the train from school, it had just stopped raining. Pauline walked past the old train tracks where she often took photographs, through puddles and down streets hidden by arched trees, and finally up her own winding street from where she could see the sky."

  13. “Come here, Alicia.” Blake said, wrapping me up in his arms. “Look, I know Dylan means a lot to you because he was your first love, and no one forgets those. But you’re going to get through this. Because you have your friends and family. But most importantly, you have me and Ruby.”
    “I just, I just can’t believe it!!” I sobbed into Blake’s shoulder.
“Shh, it’s alright. Let it out.” Ruby said, rubbing my arm.
I cried on Blake for about a good ten minutes. The bell rang and all the kids shuffled along to their next class, but not before whispering to the person next to them about me.
Dylan Price, one of my closest friends, my first love, was gone.

  14. The pines begin again 400 yards from where he is now kneeling. The clearing is long but narrow, perfect for the wind to catch the blades of tall grass, and now he among them, as one of them being swayed in that same wistful direction. Teton looks around taking it all in, he gives thanks to Grandfather sky, brother wind and the sun. Feeling blessed in the clearing, Teton is ready to make the climb, up these same mighty snow capped peaks bearing his namesake.

  15. I opened my eyes and Alice was gone. I tucked myself into the bed that had my name on it, and I fell in a deep sleep. Or not so deep. I twisted and turned. The bed was uncomfortable, and I felt cramped since it was much smaller than the one I had at home.
I checked the clock and the time read 4 in the morning.
I got up, and it was still dark. I spotted another kid shooting arrows on the target, and I wanted to try. I walked over to the archery range.
“Hey.” I said in a small voice.
The person glanced at me and dropped his bow.
“Are you a mortal?” He asked.
“From what people told me, I am not a mortal.” I confirmed.
He looked relieved. “In that case, nice to meet you. I go by K. Nothing else.”
I thought to myself silently. “Does that stand for something?”
    “Nope.”
“Oh. Well, what are you doing?”
    “Archery, what else?”
“I don’t know...you guys could be slaying dragons or some sort of weird stuff like that.”
He clamped a hand over my mouth.
“Don’t say anything. Creatures don’t exist.”
    “Yeah, I know that.”
“Don’t say that. Ever again.” he let go and went back to shooting the targets.
“I won’t.” I promised, but he didn’t seem to hear me.
People here looked like they were fearless, but after talking to them they seemed quite vulnerable. I almost forgot I was one of them now too.

  16. Julianne’s head felt like 15 dictionaries were laying on it.
She heard nothing, because she felt she had fallen a long way and her ears were damaged in the process. She whispered Cora’s name, Cora was the first to touch the necklace, and the necklace was all Julianne was thinking about.
Julianne finally opened her eyes, she saw something white, but her vision was blurry, so she couldn’t make out what it was .
The pain in her head stopped, and she heard a scream.
It was a familiar scream, but it definitely wasn’t one of her friend’s screams.
Her eyesight was was getting better, and she finally saw what it was…….

  19. “How peculiar it is, bad memories bring tears to your eyes, and good ones do too. Suppose you woke up in the middle of the night with memories and thoughts that mingled in your dreams. So powerful to wake you from your sleep. What makes you cry in despair and agony from a small memory? Do we cry from the sufferings of the past, or the times that we cherish that will never happen again? Both I suppose, since both of them make us forlorn. However, I do not understand; how wonderful can a thought be to be compared to the present? How is it heavier on a weight scale than life now, what makes it so special? What is a memory?” Sighed the woman, walking around me with her sharp fingernails around my neck. “Tell me about him.” Her dark, wavy hair followed her movements, slow and elegant. Her blue eyes followed me cautiously and carefully, making sure that I
couldn’t move. Of course I couldn’t move! I was tied to a chair with pink, ugh, pink duct tape over my mouth.
First of all, I was NEVER going to tell her any information, and second of all, how could I? I had duct tape on my
mouth, so all I could manage to make out was MFFFDUFBDH and things like that...Did she think that I had
special ninja moves so that I could break free, rip off the duct tape (ow.), and strangle her or something? Of
course, I couldn’t do that, since, A. I am not a ninja, and B. there were guards standing around this area, and they would probably shoot me to death even if I just laid my finger on her. I glared at her, giving her the I will
murder you look. However, the more I looked at her, the more the more familiar she seemed, as if I saw her
everyday. What was it? The smell of her warm, vanilla perfume agitated me, making me want to actually strangle
her. I was never going to give away his identity, who he was, and why he was this way. He was already in so much
pain. Even if she let me go for it, I wouldn’t. I stared at her, her pale skin, dark blue eyes, and chocolate brown
hair reminded me of something, but, what? Her smooth, flowing voice tickled my ear,
“Tell me child, what do you know of him?” She cooed, twisting my hair with her index finger. Him.
That word rang in my ears. It struck me. No. It couldn’t be, no. That just wasn’t fair. It wasn’t fair for him. He
already had too much to handle. But, I knew. It all fit in so perfectly. My head was about to explode. Anger and
despair rose into my veins. I found her identity, his reason of suffering.
    “YRRBRTSMTH!”

This is my excerpt. Mr. Scott, I just remembered about my word count! My word goal was 10,000, and I wrote 13145 words. When I tried to write down the word count I finished with, I realized that the deadline to write it was yesterday. For this whole week I forgot to update the word count. What should I do?
