Context and Reflection

I chose this piece from our Author Project earlier in the year because it needed some work. This piece was a boring list of facts about Gayle Forman. I mean, it still is but at least it is has more information and context to it. This piece shows my transitioning between sentences and research skills. Revising this piece was quite simple since it was mostly just providing more information.

Gayle Forman’s Biography

Gayle Forman is an author of eight novels and has won over six awards. She is still writing, publishing and editing novels. Gayle Forman was born on June 5, 1970 in Los Angeles. She now lives in Brooklyn New York with her husband, Nick. Forman has two daughters, one of whom is adopted. After she graduated from college she became a journalist who specialized in reporting on young people and social-justice issues. She  started out working for Seventeen Magazine. Later, Forman became a freelance journalist, writing for magazines like Details, Jane, Glamour, The Nation, Elle, Budget Travel, and Cosmopolitan.
In 2002, Forman went traveling for a year around the world with her husband, Nick. That same year her daughter, Willa Forman was born. Soon after, the three of them traveled to Ethiopia and adopted Gayle’s second daughter, Denbele. Two years later, at the age of thirty four, Gayle Forman started writing novels. Three main causes made her become an novelist. One: poverty, two: escapism, and three: boredom. In conclusion, Gayle Forman has traveled all around the globe to places other than Ethiopia and she is a successful, married, l mother of two.

About the Author

Hello, my name is Angelina. I go to Dewitt Middle School and I’m in 7th grade. This year I loved NanoWrimo and it helped me blossom as a writer. NanoWrimo also helped me express myself as a writer, show my techniques and create characters. In the beginning of the year I would’ve written an average story about some fantasy tale. Instead, I wrote a complex story that had figurative language and held the reader to the story. I’ve grown as a writer and if someone told me to sit down and write a story or essay or revise a piece, I feel that I would have the skills to accomplish the task.
